In 2023, global raspberry production reached 852,000 tons, representing a growth of 5.19% compared to the 810,000 tons reported the previous year, according to Alfonso Velásquez Tuesta, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
Mexico established itself as the world's largest producer, with 279,000 tons, an increase of 51.87% compared to 2022. The country contributed 32.7% of global production and has 15,000 hectares dedicated to this crop, generating approximately 1.3 billion dollars and 120,000 direct jobs.
In Chile, production has steadily declined over the past six years, reaching only 16,083 tons in 2023. With 3,500 hectares of cultivation, 97.3% of Chilean raspberries are destined for the frozen industry. The country faces challenges such as declining fruit quality and labor shortages.
Other notable producing countries include Poland, the United States, Ukraine, China, and Serbia, each with different production dynamics and specific challenges. For instance, Poland has reduced its cultivation areas in recent years, while China has significantly increased its production and demand.
