The National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) of Peru has authorized the importation of 777,600 blueberry plants (Vaccinium corymbosum) from Chile. This authorization was requested by a company responsible for the transportation and management of the plants.
The plants will arrive in Peru in September 2024, entering through the Santa Rosa Border Complex in Tacna. This location was chosen due to its proximity to production areas, which will reduce transportation time and stress on the plants.
Senasa has established specific requirements for this importation. The plants must arrive in their original packaging, certified by Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), without any signs of tampering. Additionally, they must be transported in refrigerated, clean, and sealed vehicles to ensure their good condition during the journey.
Once in Peru, the vehicles will be inspected and sealed before continuing to the production site in Humay, Pisco, in the Ica region. The plants will undergo a quarantine process, supervised by Senasa, to ensure they are free from pests or diseases before being integrated into the local environment.
