New Zealand forecasts exceptional citrus season

Versión para imprimir
The 2024 citrus season will be the complete opposite of the 2023 season, when Cyclone Gabrielle severely damaged crops in the Gisborne region (northeast of the North Island), where 70% of citrus is grown.

According to Wayne Hall, Chairman of Citrus NZ, this year's quality will be exceptional. This year's weather conditions have been favorable for good growth. Satsuma limes and mandarins are already available and will soon be followed by Navel oranges, lemons, grapefruits and tangelos.

The trade is encouraging New Zealand consumers to increase their citrus consumption.

But according to a study conducted by the 5+ A Day organization, only 23% of New Zealanders consume the recommended daily intake of vegetables (5 portions), and only 71% consume the recommended daily intake of fruit (2 portions).
